Beyond the Verge
Beyond the Verge is a bi-weekly fantasy podcast set in Cosrai, telling the story of five companions as they set out on an expedition to lands unknown. Beyond the Verge (or BtV) is presented like an audiobook, with each podcast episode representing a chapter of the story, and is written and narrated by G. Galen Mayhew.
The adventure is based on the author's own home TTRPG game, with each of the main characters and their actions determined by the ongoing decisions of his friends as they play. As such, the story is a collaborative, emerging beast which sometimes surprises even Galen himself!
You can find the show on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, or whatever podcasting app you use. Episodes are released weekly on Fridays at 9am EST. You can also listen to the show directly, here on our own website.
While we are not fans of excessive and gratuitous adult content, Beyond the Verge is intended for an adult audience and contains some elements (violence, dark themes, etc...) which can be inappropriate for children. We recommend listening to the podcast first and deciding if it's appropriate for your family.
Absolutely! Beyond the Verge is intended for anyone who enjoys fantasy or, above all else, a good story.
TTRPG is an abbreviation for "tabletop role-playing game," and is an umbrella term for a plethora of games published by countless authors. These games, also called pen-and-paper games, are essentially a collaborative storytelling effort where players create and act as characters, vocally narrating their own character's actions. This game format makes for an interesting way for multiple "authors" to tell a story together, with different people taking the reins of the main characters.
BtV is not presented like a game (there will be no mention of dice rolling, skill checks, or experience points), but like a fantasy novel. If you have played a TTRPG, then you might notice some elements (such as certain creatures and spells) which are familiar. Keep your ears open for those easter eggs!
